Paint chip & scratch touch-ups:

Paint touch-ups are a great solution for small damages like rock chips, door edge dings, and minor scratches. Here’s a simple breakdown of the process:

What we do:

The definition of a touchup: We carefully apply paint directly into the scratch or chip.

How we do it:

We use different techniques based on the specific damage, such as:

  • Brush touch-ups: Traditionally this was fine tipped art brushes, nowadays we use ultra fine microfibre tip disposable brushes.
  • Syringe/Needle tip application: If a
  • Airbrushing
  • Squeegee method
  • Sanding
  • Chemical excess paint removal (no sanding)
  • Fine spot repair putty
Paint options:
  • Colour-matched mix (best quality, a bit more time to arrange and of course cost)
  • Using the nearest colour I have in stock (quickest and cheaper, but least preferred, colour is the greatest factor in touchup based repairs!)
  • Base coat only: Simpler and more affordable, but less durable
  • Base and clear coat: More complex process, but higher quality result
The success of the repair depends on a few factors:
    • Paint colour: Lighter car paint colours like white are trickier than darker colours like black
    • Size of damage and location of damage on the car.
    • Viewing distance: You might notice touchup repairs up close (within 1.5-2m), especially when:
      • Changing viewing angles
      • In different lighting conditions

Remember, our goal is to make the repair as invisible as possible, but perfect matches can be challenging due to many factors.

Work Example: Pearl White Fiat 500 with deep stone chips and high up door and sill scratches

    Spot Repairs

Spot repairs involve spraying only part of a car’s body panel, such as a corner of a bumper. It’s a localised repair that avoids the need to respray an entire panel. The colour coat (base coat) is blended with the original paint for seamlessness, and then the clear coat is sprayed further ahead and blended as well.

This paint repair method is also known as S.M.A.R.T. repairs (Small to Medium Area Repair Technology).

This type of repair is chosen for time and cost efficiency.

Full Panel paint repairs (e.g., full doors, bumpers, bonnets)

Spraying a full panel provides the best repair in terms of longevity, as the clear coat layer covers the entire surface from edge to edge, ensuring better adherence. We may still use blending techniques for color matching, but the whole panel is always clear coated.

Please note that clear coat is not the same as ceramic coating.

    All Full Panel repairs include:
    1. Thorough wash before starting work on the car.
    2. Check vehicle for any issues
    3. Complete car masking: to prevent overspray contamination
    4. Colour matching: not just to paint code, but to your car to account for fading
    5. We do not thin out or reduce clear coat to ensure it has the highest amount of solid clear coat over your repair.
    6. Post-respray sanding: to ensure texture matches adjacent panels, remove dust nibs, and address any “fish eyes”
    7. Two-stage correction: of repaired panel(s) with a final breathable protective glaze from Meguiars that doesn’t interfere with paint curing
      • Optional: Paint correction for the rest of the car
      • Optional: Breathable ceramic coating application after 48 hours (though we prefer the industry-recommended 1-month wait)
    8. Post-repair wash and mini-valet including:
      • Inspect and remove any overspray that may have occurred during our or previous work.
      • Engine bay cleaning: Only if we are spraying the bonnet (this may actually happen before we start the paint repair)
      • Cleaning behind the bumper before replacement if removed (this may actually happen before we start the paint repair)
      • Cleaning of lights before replacement if removed (this may actually happen before we start the paint repair)
      • Optional: Interior valeting and detailing, as well as other detailing services

    Black textured plastic trim repair

    Pricing: On Inspection

Black plastic trim usually has a texture to it. While it’s easily repairable from scratches and other damage, matching the original texture and colour is the challenge. In some cases, we need to spray all the black trim together, either due to damage on all the plastics around the car or to ensure consistent matching.

    Examples of our work:

Here are some examples of our work.

Please remember that each car is unique. Factors such as the current colour of the car, the colour match of the paint that will be used for the repair, any previous repairs, and the location of the damage are just some of the factors that influence the repair process and the end result. We always strive to provide the best outcome under these conditions.

You may notice several services performed on these cars that were not done directly by us, such as paintless dent repair (PDR) or upholstery repairs. We collaborate with a variety of skilled providers to give our clients convenience. Feel free to contact us for any of your needs.
