We restored this Black BMW Z3 Convertible soft-top rear plastic window all the way back in 2009 a time when smartphone cameras were not yet a thing and these photos were taken on a BlackBerry so please pardon the quality!

Even then, our focus (pun intended), was the same as it is today bringing tired, neglected components back to a usable and presentable condition through careful hands-on work.

The rear window was made from flexible plastic rather than rigid glass, which meant it could not be treated like a normal polishing job. It first required a thorough clean before being carefully polished to reduce heavy hazing and scratches. If you look closely at the photos, you will notice a hand pressing from the inside. This was done to support the plastic and keep it firm while we worked the surface, allowing controlled polishing without distortion or damage.

To be clear, this process did not turn the window crystal clear, and that was never the promise. The goal was to restore visibility enough to see through properly and drive safely, extending the life of the original soft-top window and avoiding unnecessary replacement. The improvement was significant and practical, especially for a car that was still being enjoyed regularly.

This BMW Z3 was one of the first of many vehicles we had the privilege of working on for this client, who later became a good friend, Yunus Mungrati. Sadly, he passed away in 2020. We remember him fondly and pray that the Almighty grants him a high place in Heaven.
