Paint Protection Film or PPF for short, has a life span of a few years.

In my experience, it should never be left on for long as it becomes brittle and when we need to remove it, it then comes off like scales from a fish, not as a piece or sheet of film. Which takes forever! I’ve had circumstances where I’ve referred to rather have it ground off and then resprayed!

The Job

This Land Rover Discovery’s PPF was starting to yellow and whoever applied it, applied it in segments which meant that it had so many seams, which also is where dirt sticks like an ugly halo.

These factors annoyed the client understandably so it had to go.

We first had to remove the Land Rover badges before we were able to remove the bonnet piece.

The trick of course is to ensure that we put it back exactly the same way it was before.

We made double sure we had triple measurements before we debadged it. As they say measure twice cut once 🙂

We did not experience any paint coming off, but after it was removed, the cut marks from where the PPF installers had applied became visible. Unfortunately, when we see that, it cannot be removed by polishing if maybe improved on.

This was either amateur or a cheap installation.

Final pics

After the PPF was removed, we did a basic single-stage correction, engine bay clean and detail as well as a full interior valet. This is essentially our RESET package but the correction or polishing combination is one level stronger.
